If you have ever dedicated yourself to the mastery of the "classical guitar" you will no doubt appreciate the pleasure that comes from playing a truly fine instrument, but have you ever thought of how recent changes in the construction of concert-quality Spanish-style guitars have opened up a whole new world of acoustic colors with which to paint your classical music.
Consider this ... take the dynamic range and power of a finely hand-crafted "negra" flamenco guitar, remove the tap-plates, add a set of premium nylon strings, re-tune the soundboard braces and adjust the set-up to enhance the instrument's sustain, clarity and balance, and you may arguably have one of the very best six-stringed instruments for creating and interpreting any piece of music in a classical guitarist's repertoire ... with an acoustic edge that is genuinely evocative of Southern Spain.
The photographs on this site feature a few of the best Spanish-style guitars created by international-known luthier, Daniel Turner. Although he focuses primarily on creating concert-quality instruments for flamenco guitarists, aficionados, and fine instrument collectors, he also customizes the design and acoustic characteristics of his unique guitars to enhance their suitability for guitarists who record and perform across several musical styles, including classical, flamenco, Latin, and jazz.
Further information about these unique guitars can be found on the luthier's websites. (see links below)
Listen to Spanish Guitar Radio while you're viewing the images (above) or designing your own classical guitar (below). This online audio stream features some of the world's best known guitarists including Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Vicente Amigo, Baden Powell, Earl Klugh, David Russell, Tomatito, Charlie Byrd, and Carlinhos Antunes.

The Spanish Guitar Seminar in Cordoba, Spain is held once every two years and is hosted by guitarmaker, Daniel Turner. It is a very unique and informative two-day program for classical and flamenco guitarists, aficionados, and collectors. The seminar focuses primarily on the acoustic and physical evaluation and appraisal of fine Spanish guitars. It also covers the challenges and rewards of ordering a custom-made guitar, as well as the various options available for modifying or restoring a "collectable" instrument.
The next seminar begins July 3rd, 2009, just prior to the Festival de la Guitarra de Cordoba (an international gathering of classical, flamenco, and jazz guitarists with performances by some of the world's great "guitarristas"). All Seminar activities are held at the Maciá Alfaros, an elegant and charming hotel and conference center in the heart of Cordoba that offers a relaxing environment with all the amenities necessary for the Seminar. For more information, visit the seminar's Web site at : www.spanishguitarseminar.com |
